Ski season is underway at [R330R, Durango Mountain Resort] with one of the best starts in recent years, and they are offering several attractive lift and lodging packages to kick-start the season.

When you book three nights of lodging combined with three days of lift tickets at a DMR property, they will throw in an extra night and day for free. This special is also valid for rentals and group ski/ride lessons.

The Rocky Mountain Getaway, from $79 per person, per night based on double occupancy, includes lodging and lift tickets and is available on weekends.  It requires a two-night stay.

You can get a four day, four night lift and lodging package for two adults and two children ages 6-12 from as low as $199 per family, per night. That's less than a $1,000 for a Rocky Mountain family ski vacation.

Purgatory Mountain offers 85 runs serviced by 10 lifts, including two high-speed lifts, and three terrain parks.  It used to be thought of as a mostly large intermediate mountain with little expert terrain. That image is being altered with additions of expert glade areas the last couple of seasons. They still offer a sea of blue and green cruisers, but now advanced skiers and snowboarders have plenty of choices as well.

Durango also has ramped up their terrain park offerings. More natural terrain features have been added, which requires less snow to open the parks and maintain them. That means earlier terrain park openings than in past years.

Snowmaking was expanded on Pandemonium, a popular signature run, which, like many of the trails on Purgatory, takes its name from Dante's Inferno.
