Filzmoos in Austria will stage its annual International Balloon Festival Jan. 12-19. The pretty little resort, located south of Salzburg, sits in a snow pocket at the foot of the spectacular Bischofsmütze mountain. It is currently celebrating the best early season snow conditions for more than a decade, like most Austrian resorts. The highlight of the event is the "Night of Balloons," Jan. 13, 6 p.m., where a flurry of up to 40 balloons, illuminated from within, light up the night sky.
