[R407R, Snowshoe Mountain Resort] has a learn-to-ski-or-ride offer that almost guarantees success.

Guests buy one adult group lesson at the flat rate, and get free lessons for the rest of their stay. Limit: one lesson per day of the stay.

Snowshoe's Laura Parquette told OnTheSnow.com, "This is basically a guaranteed learn-to-ski program with the goal of bringing new folks into the sport and making them lifelong fans. We know at Snowshoe a majority of our guests are never-evers, or still beginners, so have a lot to learn. We just wanted to make it easier for them to learn, and more affordable as well.

"We realize skiing and snowboarding are expensive sports, and we don't want that to prevent people from getting into the sport," Parquette said.

Snowshoe is four hours from Washington, D.C. and Pittsburgh, five hours from Richmond, and six hours from Norfolk, Va., and North Carolina.

"People are making a real commitment when they come to Snowshoe, and we want them to get something for that," Parquette said.

"Skiing and riding isn't something you pick up in a day. We've all been beginners, and we all know how frustrating it can be. Once people get instruction, they fall in love with the sport," she said.

Parquette said Snowshoe also has a new store, West Virginia Living, which sells products made in West Virginia, including food, jewelry, blown glass, and books by local authors.
