Mountain resorts are doing everything they can to make it easier for you, especially when it comes to your rental equipment. Avoid extra airline charges and hassles by renting your skis, snowboards, and boots when you get to your destination.

The latest craze is rental deliveries. Companies like Black Tie Ski Rentals, Door 2 Door Ski Rental Delivery, and Ski Butlers are at many of the major resorts.

Delivery and pick-up are free with Door 2 Door, Ski Butlers, and Black Tie. Boot and ski fittings are usually done in the room, thereby avoiding having to waste time coordinating the whole family at a ski shop.

Black Tie Ski Rentals is based in [R425R, Steamboat], with businesses set up at nearly 20 resorts in California, Colorado, Montana, Utah, and Canada. They recently added [R507R, Winter Park] and [R227R, Mammoth Mountain]. Try their Kids Rent Free option: one child under 12 can get free equipment with every 5-day paid adult rental. Kids' packages can be upgraded, but are not available in all locations. Kids and adults helmets also can be rented.

Door 2 Door Ski Rental Delivery is another service. This company has merged with Christy Sports in Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, and Utah, to make it easier to get rental equipment to customers. Skis and snowboards are delivered to your door and custom fitted to your ability. You can switch off your gear, drop it off, or get repairs at any Christy Sport location, which many times is at the base of the mountain. You also can purchase merchandise off of the D2D Web site that is delivered with your rental gear.

Ski Butlers services California: [R169R, Heavenly], No. Lake Tahoe, [R419R, Squaw Valley]; Colorado:  [R25R, Aspen/Snowmass],  [R36R, Beaver Creek], [R77R, Breckenridge], [R113R, Copper Mountain], [R197R, Keystone], Steamboat, [R456R, Telluride], [R482R, Vail]; Utah: [R314R, Park City], [R129R, Deer Valley] and Salt Lake City); Wyoming [R191R, Jackson Hole]; and British Columbia: [R493R, Whistler/Blackcomb].

Check to see if companies offer discounts for early or online bookings or group packages, the type of equipment offered, and customer support for equipment or other problems that can arise.
