The Silvretta Arena resorts of [R677R, Ischgl] and [R636R, Samnaun] have spent a total of €20 million on two new chairlifts. Both are to open in time for this winter season.

Ischgl has invested in a new detachable six-seater chairlift to transport skiers up to 2850 metres in just over five minutes. The new Lange Wandbahn railway has been constructed at a cost of €8 million and is complete with heated seats, leather upholstery, and weather protection hoods.

Skiers can take the new chairlift from the valley station (2217m) to the highest point in the Silvretta Arena, the Greit peak (2850m). The new chairlift can transport 2400 people per hour.

The neighbouring village of Samnaun also will benefit from a new six-seater chairlift. The greatest investment being made by the Bergbahnen Samnaun AG lift company is the replacement of the fixed grip Muller chairlift (built in 1991) with an efficient automatically detachable six-seater chairlift, the Garaventa chairlift.

The new lift has leather seats with weather protection hoods. The Garaventa chairlift will transport 3000 skier per hour, beginning in December.

Samnaun has expanded artificial snow-making facilities. Approximately 70 percent of the resort's pistes are covered in snow canons. There also has been a substantial expansion of avalanche safety devices.
