Where . . . SnowWorld Zoetermeer, The Netherlands

What . . . SnowWorld Zoetermeer has three slopes with five long draglifts, a ropelift, and two children's lifts. The longest run is 210 metres with a 20-percent decent and is favoured by intermediates and advanced skiers. The gentle beginners' slope is where introductory lessons take place and the separate children's slope is served by two secure band lifts. There is also a permanent funpark for snowboarders and freestyle skiers.

SnowWorld has lessons and courses for all levels, including the Kinderschool Snowy for the youngest skiers. For a perfect snow condition, the temperature in the hall is constantly -5 degrees Celsius so warm clothing is a must.

SnowWorld Zoetemeer is open 9 a.m. to midnight (Mon-Fri) and 8 a.m. to midnight (Sat and Sun) between Oct. 1 and March 31; 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. (Mon-Sat) April 1 to Sept. 30.

Non-Skiing Activities . . . Tubing and airboarding is also possible but it has to be reserved in advance and is only possible if there are enough people.

Food/Shops . . . There are two ski bars: one is a traditional Austrian bar with a terrace and barbecue the other has a view of the slopes and live music. There are also two restaurants: a self-service restaurant offers hot and cold meals and Restaurant Alto Adige serves a bigger selection of a la carte dishes.

Prices . . . A one-hour lift pass costs €19.50 adults; €16.50 children. Gear rental is extra (€6.50 adults; €4.50 children). Ski lessons start at €7.50 for adults.
