[R124R, Crystal Mountain] plans to be a hubbub of activity this summer. The resort has scheduled to move ahead this summer with installing a new gondola and new terrain park.

Preparations for installing the new Doppelmayr gondola, the first gondola at a ski area in the State of Washington, will begin April 19, the day after the ski resort closes for the season. Construction over the summer will have it operational by the opening of the 2010-11 season.

The base terminal of the gondola will sit where the Mountain Market is located. The placement of the top terminal of the gondola will unload passengers near the Summit House and the top of the Rainier Express within full view of Mt. Rainier.

The gondola is a step toward offering non-skiing passengers a way to get to the top of the resort during winter and will be able to operate during high winds that shut down the Rainier Express. The resort also plans to offer its popular sunset dinners, offered currently only in summer, at the Summit House next winter.

The new gondola is designed to enhance summer visitation as well as winter. Those out for summer sightseeing will be able to ride the gondola to the mountaintop instead of riding two lifts. The Summit House, a destination with Summer Sunset Dinners, brunches, and weddings, provides ones of Washington's best northern views of Mt. Rainier.

Crystal also has plans to build a progressive terrain park for next winter on Mr. Magoo-a run rife with natural rolls. Rails and boxes will be built this summer for the park that will feature mostly jibs.
