[R299R, Northstar-at-Tahoe] opened the first superpipe in the Tahoe area New Year's Day and is in the process of designing its new DC Park. Both the superpipe and new park will be featured in upcoming events at the resort.

The first day of January saw the resort's 420-foot Superpipe open for the season as well as Pinball Park, which houses almost 30 medium to large rails, boxes, jumps, spines, and barrels. Moonshine Park, a new family fun park that also opened by the New Year, tones down the scale with a collection of boxes and rails designed for younger kids and families who want to tour the park together.

The Superpipe will be one of the main attractions included in the Ultimate Boarder Championship hosted at the resort March 12-14. Professional and amateur athletes will compete in Superpipe and slopestyle events for the three-board sport event.

The resort plans to introduce a new park with large freestyle features sponsored by DC Shoes. The new park brings Northstar's parks to six. "The DC Park is a great addition because it will not only include unique park offerings, but is also easily viewable for all park goers, located right under the Vista Express chairlift," said Chris Castaneda, Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort terrain park manager.

Northstar Resort is host to several freestyle events later this winter, including the Burton AM Series, Feb. 6-7; the Transworld TransAm, March 6, 2010; the Stash Gathering, March 20; and the Butterbox High Ollie Contest, March 27.
