2016/2017 Faction Candide 4.0 ski review. OnTheSnow tested this ski as part of its men’s Powder Category.

The Candide 4.0, or the “CT” as it’s also called, is part of the big-mountain skier Candide Thovex’s signature series. “If you’re a charger like Candide, you’d like the power here—I felt like I could jump over a helicopter,” muses Rice. This season, Faction updated what they label “a lightweight backcountry ski” by increasing the girth of the waist to 118-mm underfoot and offering more length options. The sandwich construction includes a balsa core with woven strips of flax and Titanal plates designed to secure binding screws. A micro “cap” increases sidewall durability. Testers say best attributes of the Candide 4.0’s are stability and float and were less impressed with its carving ability. “It’s damp and sluggish making turns back to the lift,” says Witman. “This is strictly a powder and soft snow ski.”
