2016/2017 Elan Ripstick 106 ski review. OnTheSnow tested this ski as part of its men’s Powder Category.

A brand new concept—and ski—from Elan, the Ripstick 106 is engineered to tackle steeps and challenging conditions as well as perform well in powder (For a wider platform, look to the Ripstick 116). The new construction comes from a combination of technologies: Elan’s Tubelite wood core adds carbon tubes tip to tail for rebound and weight reduction, while VaporTip inserts help absorb vibration and lighten the tip. The 106-mm-waisted ski also possesses Elan’s Amphibio Profile, producing rocker on the outside ski edge for maneuverability and camber on the inside edge for better edge grip, resulting in a left and right ski. “There’s a big sweet spot here, and the ski can hold a turn while releasing it easily,” says Jakob. Testers gave the ski high marks for playfulness, which outshined its tallies for stability. “I loved what the energy in the ski did for me at the end of the day,” says Witman. “No surprises, just playful and poppy in the perfect way.”
