2016/2017 Salomon Gemma ski review. OnTheSnow tested this ski as part of its women’s Frontside Category.

“No need to think too hard to turn this well-balanced, all-around ski,” says Balandina of the Salomon Gemma. Testers scored the 85-mm-waisted ski highest for carving, lowest for playfulness. “Not as playful as some skis in the category, but it’s a solid contender in the cruiser department,” notes Rodman. The Gemma has a weight-saving Light Density Woodcore with a vibration-absorbing layer of basalt fiber. Construction details also include semi-sandwich sidewalls, which combines ABS sidewall underfoot with Salmon’s capped Monocoque construction at the tail and rockered tip. The 3D shape of Salomon’s Control Frame reinforces the edges thanks to extra topsheet “frame” material.
