2016/2017 Elan Insomnia ski review. OnTheSnow tested this ski as part of its women’s Frontside Category and awarded it an Editors’ Choice honor.

“No way to fall asleep on these skis,” says Muecke of the Elan Insomnia. “They’re playful, snappy and responsive.” Along with a wood core and two sheets of thin shaped titanium, the Insomnia’s technology story includes Amphibio 4D. This latest iteration of an Elan classic combines the left and right Amphibio construction—traditional camber tip to tail on the inside edge with rocker at the tip and tail on the outside edge—with 4D segmentation that creates a convex shape in the front of the ski and concave shape in the rear, all designed for better turn initiation. Testers concurred, awarding equally high scores to the 73-mm-waisted ski in the carving and playfulness categories, which surpassed scores for versatility. “This is a great all-level frontside ripper—playful, light and fun,” says Rodman.
