2016/2017 Salomon X-Drive 8.0 FS ski review. OnTheSnow tested this ski as part of its men’s Frontside Category.

A member of Salomon’s All-Mountain Frontside Series, the X-Drive 8.0 FS (with an 80-mm waist) has a full wood core and full sandwich sidewall construction. Core reinforcements include Titanal, basalt and Koroyd in the tip as well as an insert of composite fiber in the tip called RKS, designed to stabilize the effects of rocker. The X-Drive 8.0 FS also has X-Chassis—diagonal strips of carbon meshed in a X-shape. “It makes fun, happy turns and is suited to a variety of conditions,” says March. The X-Drive 8.0 FS received its highest scores for playfulness, lowest for stability. “Bumps and tight trees suit this ski, but it felt a little light at high speeds,” says Witman.
