2015/2016 Salomon Gemma ski review. OnTheSnow tested this ski as part of its women’s All-Mountain Front Category.

“A soft, forgiving carver with decent powder performance,” says Van Deursen of the new Salomon Gemma. Testers gave the 85-mm-waisted Gemma its highest scores for carving, lower for versatility and stability. Salomon shaves weight with light density wood in the core as well as a semi-sandwich sidewall, which combines ABS sidewall underfoot and Salmon’s capped Monocoque at the tail and rockered tip. The Gemma’s edges are reinforced with extra topsheet “frame” material while vibrations are absorbed underfoot through the Comfortech dampening system. “It’s a calm ski with a damp frame,” notes Pugliese.
