2015/2016 Salomon X-Drive 8.8 FS ski review. OnTheSnow tested this ski as part of its men’s All-Mountain Front Category.

“This light and snappy ski is great for the intermediate to advanced skier who likes to keep it on edge,” says Dittmar of the Salomon X-Drive 8.8 FS. The 88-mm-waisted frontside all-mountain ski, as Salomon calls it, received its highest tester scores for carving, lower for float. “It sinks a little but loves to jump from powder pile to pile,” adds Witman. “It’s easy to ski and excels at medium radius turns at medium speed.” The X-Drive 8.8 FS has a carbon and visible polymide X-shaped chassis for torsional stiffness. Other details include composite fiber inserts in the tip and tail to stabilize the rockered areas, reinforced full sandwich sidewalls, light density wood core, and a weight-reducing honeycomb tip.
