2015/2016 Elan Amphibio 88 XTI ski review. OnTheSnow tested this ski as part of its men’s All-Mountain Front Category.

Elan’s new Amphibio 4D technology builds off of edge-grip enhancing Amphibio, which creates a cambered inside edge and a rockered outside edge to form a right and left ski. The 4D iteration adds a convex tip for easy entrance into the turn and a concave tail for better turn exit. Testers awarded the 88-mm-waisted ski its highest scores for carving, lowest for float. “It’s very easy to initiate turns, especially at medium speed,” says Stoeger. Other details include a sidewall construction, a wood core and two sheets of shaped titanium. “This ski lost some stability at higher speeds, but it has great edge hold—like a playful frontside carver—from short fall-line arcs to bigger radius turns,” says Bills.
