2015/2016 Völkl RTM 84 UVO ski review. OnTheSnow tested this ski as part of its men’s Frontside Category and awarded it an Editors’ Choice honor.

“My overall impression: Thumb’s up!” says Smid of this Völkl ski. “This is a trustworthy, energetic platform to rally on.” The newly designed RTM 84 UVO (from the Ride the Mountain series) loses and gains elements for 2015/16. Instead of a fully-rockered profile, it now has tip and tail rocker with camber underfoot. Last season, Völkl stiffened up the tip and softened the 84-mm waist, but now the ski sports new 3D Ridge construction, which creates a raised ridge in the center of the wood and steel core, and reduces weight while maintaining stability. Originally a creation for race skis from Völkl’s partner, Marker, UVO (ultimate vibration object) serves to dampen the RTM 84 and absorb vibration. “It’s wider than most of the skis in our Frontside Category, but it’s quick, stable and a great carver,” says Bills.
