2015/2016 Elan Amphibio 16 DTI ski review. OnTheSnow tested this ski as part of its men’s Frontside Category.

Amphibio technology—where a cambered inside edge and a rockered outside edge create a right and left ski—has futurized. The next generation, called Amphibio 4D, retains the rockered outside edge and a cambered inside edge. It now adds a convex tip and concave tail to a wood core flanked by double sheets of shaped titanium—all packed up in a sidewall construction. Amphibio 4D is designed to enhance carving, and indeed, the 73-mm-waisted frontside ski received its highest scores for carving and stability: “Best in the bumps and crud where it’s lively and responsive and easy to find the big sweet spot,” says Zawacki. Lowest scores came in for versatility: “The tip wants to turn almost too much, but it’s really easy to carve,” says Bills.
