Folsom Custom Skis is the original concept of Jordan Grano, who in 2004 started building skis out of his Boulder, Colo., garage located on Folsom Street. In 2007, Mike McCabe came aboard to design the fully custom skis, an effort that allows customers to pick the flex pattern, camber profile, tip and tail design, and graphics. The skier-owned company has moved to Denver and sources most of their materials within the U.S.

The Folsom Primary ($820 for retail model available at backcountry.com) is designed to be a one-ski quiver: It blends different shapes, a mild tip and tail taper with rocker in the tip as well as a core constructed of poplar, maple, bamboo and carbon fiber stringers. As always with Folsom, you can customize your ski: For example you can chose between a touring and twin tip/tail.
