Founded in 2005 by Patagonia ski ambassador, Stephan Drake, DPS set itself apart by making stiff yet lightweight prepreg carbon sandwich skis designed for storm chasers. All product and development happens in the Wasatch, the backyard of this Salt Lake City-based company. DPS carbon skis are still manufactured in Utah, while new metal laminate models are made in China.

The DPS Wailer 112RP2 features prepreg carbon laminates along with an aspen wood core wrapped up with a race-inspired sidewall construction. Details include a 112-mm waist and low tip and tail rocker. The Wailer is also available in the Hybrid version ($799), with a centered carbon stringer and bamboo core.
