FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Skiers who aren’t drawn to loud lenses or goggle size might find a solid match here, especially considering the Onset’s field of vision. They are low profile, riding close to your face, without excessive padding. Our test goggles were camo but thankfully were still relatively muted. This is eyewear for skiers who want to make statements with other gear or let their skiing ability speak for itself.

FAVORITE FEATURES: The Onset’s claim to fame is lens quality akin to an expensive camera lens; the Carl Zeiss brand is printed proudly on the Onset’s lens. However, we didn’t find our test lenses noticeably better than other brands nor did they perform comparatively worse. These goggles do excel in providing a superb field of vision. While these are low profile, peripheral vision is excellent. Giro says these are “seamlessly compatible” with its Edit and Combyn helmets, though we feel the general shape of these goggles should be compatible with a variety of helmets.

MANUFACTURER DESCRIPTION: The Onset is the goggle that trail-blazed the EXV collection and this groundbreaking goggle is back again to provide the best in class: the crisp, clear optics of ZEISS lenses, a low profile spherical frame design, and the unmatched field of view that Expansion View Technology (EXV) provides. The Onset offers a full array of premium features and lens options plus seamless helmet compatibility for superior performance, comfort, fit and function.
