2015 Atomic Century 109 ski review. OnTheSnow tested this ski as part of its women’s Powder Category.
The new Century 109’s waist crests the century mark. Inspired by last year’s Century, the 109 gets redesigned with Sprocket Power Boosters (SPB), technology that features carbon inserts in front of and behind the binding for added stability. Atomic’s Step Down Sidewall 2.0 includes sidewalls in the binding area to absorb shock and increase edge grip, combined with cap construction in the tip and tail area for better steering. Testers awarded Atomic’s widest freeski women’s powder ski high marks in the float and stability categories. “This ski has a fantastic ability to charge through powder and carve on packed snow,” says Johnson. “It’s a great ski for a die-hard’s quiver but is accessible for intermediates as well.” Construction includes a light poplar wood core as well as generous tip and tail rocker. “Great maneuverability and glide in all conditions,” says Rodman. “It’s trustworthy even as conditions and terrain get challenging.”
