Völkl 100 Eight ski review, 2017/2018 men's Big Mountain Category, from our equipment experts at Realskiers.com powered by Masterfit.

To judge by appearances, the Völkl 100 Eight hasn’t changed from last season to this season. The ski's signature 3D.Ridge shape, the poster child for the lighter is better movement, retains its unique configuration that seems to pare away every extra atom of ski. What’s changed is that Völkl's 3D.Ridge is now mated with a bottom and side assembly called 3D.Glass that completes what amounts to a fiberglass torsion box. A full-length sheet of prepreg glass has flaps in the middle that run up and over the sidewall, anchoring the new laminate to the rest of the 100 Eight's structure. The result is OMG. More bite on hard snow despite a fully rockered baseline. More energy off the bottom of the turn, bringing the 100 Eight closer to the surface in powder where transition to the new turn is over before you know it. More resistance to the slugfest of crisscrossing old tracks at speed. 3D.Glass also means more weight, but the Völkl 100 Eight performance's payoff is more than worth it. “A fun, playful ski,” said Jack Walzer. “Great in soft snow. Very lively.”
