Völkl Yumi ski review, 2017/2018 women's Frontside Category, from our equipment experts at Realskiers.com powered by Masterfit.

For 2018, Völkl has made what is perhaps one of the best “step-up” skis made for women even better. Just where one is stepping up from varies from case to case. For some, Völkl's Yumi will be the first ski owned instead of rented. For others, the ski is a step up from hand me downs, the first stop off the secondhand carousel. Some Yumi-ettes are young but by no means all. What makes the Völkl Yumi so right for so many women on the way up from intermediate-hood is that it’s accessible to low-skill skiers without placing limits on them. What’s better about the new Yumi is a higher top end and a shape more adapted to off-trail exploration. The raised performance ceiling is attributable to the “Titanal Band,” a central platform of metal that gives the new Yumi improved edge grip in the cambered zone underfoot. To help intermediates travel off trail without trouble, the new Yumi has a double-rockered baseline and a tapered tip. These features underscore that the step-up skier’s destination is presumably off-piste proficiency. “Soft, playful, ski perfect for beginner to intermediate lightweight women,” said Stephanie Humes.
