Blizzard Black Pearl 88 ski review, 2017/2018 women's All-Mountain Front Category, from our equipment experts at powered by Masterfit.

The Black Pearl was already the best selling of all women’s skis in America when Blizzard upped the ante and made it even better. The 2018 Black Pearl 88 has a dollop more sidecut and a pinch less front rocker, so it hooks up a heartbeat earlier on hard snow. But while Blizzard's new Black Pearl shines on groomers, the ski really comes out of its shell when unleashed in the wild terrain off trail. The reason for the Black Pearl’s over-the-top popularity is that it makes the perfect gateway ski for the gal who has the itch to get off the groom. Mary Geddes of Sturtevant’s of Sun Valley spoke to that versatility, reporting that she “loved how this ski handled on a charging groomer and off piste.” The Black Pearl 88’s lower profile front rocker skis smoothly up a mogul’s backside, and the new shape snakes around trees with greater ease. It’s no small feat to please all women all the time, but Blizzard comes close with the Black Pearl 88. Skylar from Aspen Ski and Board “Loved this ski! It was easy to turn and felt very stable. The edge hold at faster speeds was outstanding.” Liz Elling of Gravity Sports chimed in similarly: “Carvy and easy to turn – love the new changes!”
