Head Monster 98 ski review, 2017/2018 men's All-Mountain Back Category, from our equipment experts at Realskiers.com powered by Masterfit.

The Head Monster 98 is not your typical off-trail ski. It’s built like a GS ski with a flex pattern modified for skiing broken snow, so it charges through all conditions with the stability of race skis. Monster 98's sturdy, wood/glass/Titanal/Graphene construction overpowers tracked-up snowfields as if they were groomers. Although Head softened the flex on the 2018 Monster 98, it’s still a Power ski, suited to a skier of at least advanced ability. The Monster 98 skis like the love child of a Technical ski built for precise carving and a Big Mountain ski intended for battering through crud. Even when tilted to a high edge angle, it still cuts a long-radius swath; if you like your turns doled out in small doses, Head's Monster 98 isn’t your ideal mate. But if you like to let ‘em rip, it’s solid as granite on edge. “A distinguished, western everyday ski,” noted Bob Gleason of Boot Doctors in Telluride. “Rides like a café racer through varying terrain and conditions.”
