Beautiful resort with small queues (longest wait is 10-15 mins but normally no more than 5 minutes). It is easy to navigate and the ski schools and hire shops all speak very good English, French and obviously Italian. Very efficient lifts. This is now my 5th time in a row here and I absolutely love it!!!

Been here several days. Couldn't get into other valley due to link lift being shut. Second day couldn't get beyond second lift out of Champoluc, so runs very limited. Quiet town. Drive to second valley would have taken over 1.5 hours. So 3 hr round trip not really a plan. Yes cheap food and drink, but needs to have more slopes to make that a positive. Don't come here to ski your legs off unless you are happy to run the same slopes all day.
Well prepared runs
Limited skiing

The slopes are fast and there's not much people. No queues at all.But the strong suit of the resort is definitely the freeride possibilities, so try to go when there's plenty of snowThere ain't any nightlife as far as we could see though.
It's a freeride paradise
Après Ski is weak

Great area, which is unknown for many people. Thanks for that. No waiting time at the lifts, Great pistes very well preperated. Excelent mountain huts with great local food. Possible to ski to Gressoney and Alagna, which both have more challenge ski lists. Prices are moderate fore both food and wine of high quality.
Food, Prices, no waiting time on lifts, very local
Hard to get their, very local,

Having visited a lot of resorts in Europe I have to admit that Monterosa Ski, and Champoluc in particular passed with full marks my test, the slopes are just fantastic both for normal skiers and experts, the panorama and the diversity through the different valleys (all connected through slopes) gives to the area that plus mark. The village is very cosy with some stores (very interesting is the Brusson area as well - where further stores and services are available). Nightlife is very basic and It has to be improved to be able to attract the "young" clientele as well.
panorama, slopes conditions, new lifts, 180km of slopes.
nightlife
A most excellent Ski Area Home Of some the Fastest Straight Line skiers in the world 254 kph aprox so not time for relaxing here ! if you can pass them they may shout you a beer ! But Seriously what do you want from your skiing ... Yes no waiting at lifts long runs Challenging terrain then some just cruising well Monterosa and Champoluc and Frachey with their new lifts an awesome Finicular Just over two mins to the bottom of the chair ..... hardly time to catch your breath . From Champoluc the Gondalas and chair take to to the top before you have hardly had time to take in the Awesome Vista that surrounds you ! With fresh snow , you have a choice of some interesting off trail runs and or trail run back to base . 2700m down to 1500m or drop over the back for a breath taking run to the next mid station where you can then refuel and take a break .... or continue on to one of the other two valleys that make up this just absolutely wonderful ski area ! Just a warning do not forget that pre season prep as your legs may turn to jelly . Then there's the food which is out of this world local specialties which are very tasty and filling ... The Mountain folk are all very Welcoming , there is also a range very good comfortable modern hotels or old world converted barns into quaint but very very comfortable . Additionally the oppertunity for Heli Skiing also temps those who want that extra adrenlin rush .... ...
excellent ...... would live there full time if it was not for work smiles
none that come to mind
I'm sorry that persons in this link think that Champoluc does not offer a great value of different challenges. My friends and I stayed for nine days in between jan and feb. Every day we had new and white snow to fight! Try to go out of the slopes, and you will find aereas that can be compared with the best off piste all around! I also tried the slopes ( just for relaxing) and they satisfied my exceptations! ?+++ Thank you Champ, for one of my best freeride ever!!!!
Lots of snow. Off piste!
Nightlife. Pizzas!
We are heading back to Champoluc for our 5th anual visit. It must be OK if we keep on going back! The skiing is great(but not very chalanging) The snow is much the same as Zermat or Cervinia at a third of the price of Zermat and a bit more than half the price of Cervinia ! If you want apres ski, go somewhere else, but if you want well prepared pistes, fantastic scienery, great value mountain restaurants, and friendly locals, Champoluc has it all . If you get up early you can drive to Cervinia and take a day pass for the Zermat ski domain, ski down into Switzerland for lunch (Try Max & Greti at Zum Zee, the best mountain restaurant in the world) ski one or two decents from Klein materhorn then Ski the 14 KM Ventina pist from the top of Klein Materhorn(Nearly 4,000M.) over plateau rosa ,in to Cervinia, you wont need any apres ski after that, just a good dinner and bed !! ! We stay each year at le Rocher Hotel, newly built(5 or 6 years ago), family run, just great and good value for money too.Ask for Lotta, or Giulio, the owners. PS. The guy that complained about soft snow MUST know that it can happen anywhere once the weather warms up, it is NOT specific to champoluc.
After reading 'anonymous' and the 40+ visitors to Champoluc it is a pity that he has decided that you can't ski after mid-day because of the slushy conditions. I have skied Champoluc/Gressoney/Alagna many times and the conditions of the snow, as in any other resort in the world, depends on the prevailing temputure. In other words, yes, it can be slushy in Champolus, or Val d'Isere, Vail, etc. but during the winter months that is fairly rare. The other point to remember is that there isn't much night life in Champoluc, just a few quiet bars and restaurants and for regular users of this area I hope that it remains this way. People ski the Monterosa area for the wonderful scenery, lack of queues and the reasonable prices.
Quite runs, lovely scenery
No blue runs to resort for beginners
Went with a group, (40+ year olds) and stayed in the Hotel Relais de Glacier. (Very nice, great steam room, sauna, massage etc..) Skiing low down tended to be waxy and unpleasurable, but once we got over the top of the mountain, links to higher mountains and huge expanses of ski area, it was fantastic. Well prepared pistes, good and cheap mountain restaurants and simply fantastic views of the glacier, Matterhorn and surrounding ranges. Pistes 50m+ wide mean novices can turn a black run into a blue. Mind you, Italians like graceful skiing so their black runs equal French Red. Decent apres-ski is hard to find. There are some pubs and clubs, but not many. Because of the access to higher ski areas, this resort gets a better rating. you can't really ski lower down after midday as it turns to slush.
