One of the top Rocky Mountain Ski Resorts…..Right up there with Vail, Aspen, Alta, and Snowbird……
To the Japanese fellow who commented that ‘….they cut down too many trees leaving the runs bare and icy…’
Well the Jackson Hole Mountain Corporation has done an absolute minimum of tree cutting of tree cutting…..wide open Bowls and Slopes are the natural terrain of Jackson which makes for 2,500 acres of fabulous in-bounds skiing…..plus unlimited access to abutting out of bounds ski terrain
Very sorry if our Japanese comment or was in Jackson Hole on a sub-par ski day……JaciHole consistently gets an average of 450” of snow a year……usually only out done by Alta and Snowbird…
But in the infamously low snow Winter of 2026-2026 Jackson got 375” surpassing all Rocky Mountain Ski Resorts including Alta and Snowbird
Definitely try n Hole……it is more than just a ski hill……the Jackson Hole Valley is an iconic destination that every one should visit at least once in a lifetime…….Heck……I had to live there 11 years

I skied 2/10 thru 2/12 and the conditions were amazing. 28 inches of powder. Best ski trip ever.

It lives up to its reputation. Awesome, steep terrain everywhere. It's chock full of endless bowls you can mess around in, and it is geared towards experts. But there is plenty of terrain for intermediates, esp. Apres Vous and Casper lift areas. The terrain on the right is more mellow. To the left and up top - Rendezvous- there are not great options for true intermediates, and virtually nothing for beginners anywhere. Double Blue mainly means it is not a Black Diamond all the way down. Black Diamond means no easy spots at all, but otherwise not too crazy. It wasn't that crowded after x-mas holiday, and my only complaint is the 40 minute plus, packed tram ride to the very top. Not fun. But waffles are good - and affordable- and the views are amazing. Also, shockingly, the town of Jackson Hole is pretty affordable. The billionaires mainly hang in or near Teton village. If you have an Ikon Pass and can manage some steeper Blues at the least, get your butt out here.

It’s a lot of fun when you time it well with new snow. Any other day, go to Targhee

Genuinely my favorite place on earth.

I love the different terrain all across the mountain, but I wish there were more expert and intermediate trails.

Be aware when going to Jackson Hole as with most resorts they have paid parking and free parking. What Jackson does with their paid parking is it adjusts the rates of paid parking depending on availability but the shuttles run throughout the day to get you from parking to resort. The free parking lot is seven miles from the resort. The shuttles however do not run all day. The shuttles taking you to resort only run from 800 to 950 and then stop till 300 and run till 530. So the warning is if only want to ski a few hours during the day or if when you get there you don’t like the conditions and want to come off the mountain DO NOT PARK at free lot.

I guess they cut down too trees too much. The end results is complete flat, boring runs that gets swept clean of any soft snow to help you stop by snowboards, making it very dangerous (as you cannot stop!), boring and completely lack of any joy. Without trees, there is no shadow from the sun which melts the snow making what was once powder icy the very next day. Without trees, the wind blows loose snow away leaving completely icy, hard and bumpy surface that is by no means fun to ski or provides a good learning environment for kids to learn how to ski and to love the sports.
I ended up spending day after day hunting for soft powder in every nook and cranny in Jackson Hole. Only found some in Pepi's run and Saratoga bowl. A lot of time wasted traveling on those icy, steep, "groomed" blue/black runs. I don't see a lot of people skiing on these groomers after lunch either, obvious I am not the only one that don't enjoy those barren landscape that is only good for snowboarders to keep sweeping the last bit of loose powder away.
I am from Japan and picked up skiing around 19 in places like Shiga-Kogen. After moving to USA in 2006, I skied every winter and visited resorts all over North America. I taught my 3 kids how to ski up to advanced level. They all enjoy tree runs with powder vs. groomed icy runs. I have so much fond memories of skiing. I wish ski resorts did not cut down so much trees!
