Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is notorious for steep terrain and gorgeous scenery, the perfect stomping grounds to many of the world’s best freeskiers. Located in Teton Village, Wyoming, just south of the Grand Teton National Park, Jackson Hole is home to some of the most hair-raising slopes in America where steep fiends go to play. The ski area receives an average of 450 inches of snowfall each year and boasts a vertical of more than 4,000 feet.
The resort may be known for having extreme terrain, but there are plenty of options for beginners and intermediates. Jackson Hole also has spectacular views of the Tetons and the surrounding valley and is consistently ranked as one of the best ski resorts in North America.
Flying to this world-class resort has never been easier. American, United, Frontier, Skywest and Delta/Northwest provide frequent service directly to Jackson Hole (JAC) from locations such as Salt Lake City, Denver, Minneapolis, Chicago, and Atlanta. Idaho Falls is 90 miles from Jackson Hole. The most popular route is over Teton Pass. Take US 26 East to Swan Valley. Turn left in Swan Valley on ID 31 Victor. Turn right from there, heading East on ID-33. Follow ID-33 over Teton Pass where it becomes WY-22. This highway will bring you to US 89/Broadway. Turn at WY-390/ Moose-Wilson Rd. before reaching US-89/Broadway if headed to Teton Village.
It's 200 miles from Rock Springs, Wyo. to Jackson Hole. Beware of deer, elk, and antelope. Go North on US-191 from I-80. This becomes US-191/ US-189 at Daniel Junction, which in turn, changes to US -191/ US-89/ US-191 at Hoback Junction. This same road becomes Broadway in the town of Jackson. If you're going to Teton Village, take a left at WY-22 just as you enter Jackson. Then turn right at the Moose-Wilson Rd./ WY 390.
Check to see if your lodging property offers free pick up from the airport when you book. There are taxis that will drive you into town, if not. The taxi rate is $32 for 1-2 people to Jackson and $55 for 1-2 people to Teton Village. AllTrans (307-733-3135; www.jacksonholealltrans.com) operates a shuttle service and their rates are $16 one-way or $31 round trip per person to Jackson, and $26 one-way or $47 round trip to Teton Village.
Jackson Hole has a public transportation system called the START Bus (Southern Teton Area Rapid Transit) that is a cheap and efficient way of traveling around the valley. A one-way trip from the town of Jackson to Teton Village is $3 per person.
