Great powder, cosy feeling, uncrowded
Smaller resort, no fancy lifts, poor food
It was our first trip to Grand Targhee and we were very pleasantly surprised. We spent nine days there and enjoyed fresh powder during the first four days and five sunny ski days thereafter on a well groomed mountain. Ticket prices were very reasonable compared to other resorts, especially when taking into account that in most other places you had to ski on ice, rocks, and grass (incl. the nearby Jackson Hole !). This is a relatively small resort with 2000 acres of skiable terrain, but in high altitude (all well above 6000 ft). But who cares about much larger resorts, claiming huge verticals, and ski bases at 2000-4000 ft which most skiers want to avoid. When it comes to truly skiable and enjoyable terrain, it is nearly 100% at Grand Targhee and frequently under 50% at many "large" ski resorts. Finally, when it comes to views at the top of the mountain, perhaps only Jackson Hole and Whistler can match Grand Targhee views of the Teton mountain range.
