Whitecap Mountain is great!
There's a full service repair/rental shop, ski school, dining room with fireplace, bar, day care, and ski shop all housed in the main chalet. The chalet may be old, but it is well maintained and offers a true "Tyrolean" feel.
There are TONS of options when it comes to lodging. You can choose to stay in a poolside suite in the Whitecap Lodge, a mountainside chalet or condo with ski-in / ski-out ability, or lots of other options within 2 minutes of the main lodge.
Now on to the best part about Whitecap; THE SKIING! The slopes are carved into 3 mountains and really offer a wide variety of difficulty. There are people in our group as young as 3 and as old as 83 and everyone is able to find runs that suite their ability. There's an awesome lift that goes over a huge valley to one of the other mountains. If you're scared of heights I would recommend one of the many options to ski through the valley to the other mountain. Ski Magazine says "...among the Midwest ski resorts the Whitecap terrain and trail system is most like the mountains" and I whole-heatedly agree!
I've been going to Whitecap for the last 25 years and have loved every minute of it. I look forward to the trip every year and will continue to go as long as I can.
