    Leading up to the end of the season it's two weeks of carnival-like atmosphere at Granite Peak. Located on Wisconsin's Rib Mountain overlooking the city of Wausau, the Peak's Avalanche Days Celebration begins Sunday, March 25 and doesn't until Sunday, April 8; the last day of the season.     Granite Peak celebrates an old Wisconsin custom the weekend of February 10-11 with their German Festival. Tipping its hat to the strong German influence in the Badger State and a long tradition of making suds, the Peak celebrates with German beer served in the Bear's Den Saloon, polka music, kielbasa, sauerkraut and a little skiing.   • Ohio Rebounds

    The winter weather is slowly improving over most of the Heartland, but it's taken its toll. Ski areas in Ohio – Snow Trails, Mad River Mountain and Boston Mills were finally able to open briefly late last week, but all had to close down again over the weekend; again waiting for cold weather with hopefully some snow, but more importantly temperatures cold enough to make snow.
