I think Granite Peak is fine for Midwest Skiing - and that is the key, weather conditions of the last few winter seasons have been dicey at best. Timing is everything! The value is in taking advantage of the offers: Family Two for One deals online (w/ free rentals for kids). Food & drink is expensive at any resort - bring a packed cooler! For us from North of Chicago it's an easy 4.5 hr drive, and worth the extra easy 1.5hr north of Devils Head or Cascade (both are good!), but G.P. has been the "new UP" for us. The full day trip to the UP only qulaifies for a week long trip - and then you might as well go out west. Overall we think Granite Peak is great. Think Snow!
