Full review

Spent a long weekend here with my girlfriend. We moved from the East Coast to Chicago and did the 5 hour drive to Wausau after work on Thursday. We weren't sure what to expect from Midwest skiing, but after doing some research I am glad we chose Granite Peak as it was pretty comparable to what we were use to skiing around Western MD, Southern PA, and the Pocanos. The mountain is surprisingly big, lots of trails. The runs aren't that challenging, but they have several parks. It was almost empty on a Friday and we pretty much had the mountain to ourselves. On Saturday the parking lot was pretty crowded but the wait for the lift was no more than 3 minutes or so. The trails are smartly spread out over the entire mountain so it is easy to avoid the crowds. If you are in the Chicago area and looking for a drivable ski-trip, this is the best you will find by far.
