Went to Devil's head on the day of a 12in snow storm and I was stoked. I had only been to one other place in Wisconsin (Wilmot) so I wasn't sure what to expect.
Accomodations: Very reasonably priced for what they offer. I just got a single room with a TV and nice bathroom for fifty dollars a night. Not Bad. I have no idea what their condos are like, but I wouldn't stay in the room any longer than a weekend. Not much near this resort in the way of restaurants, bars, or grocery stores. The food, as is typical in all ski resorts is overpriced, not horrible, but you really have no other options. It was later in the season so not all the restaurants and bars at the resort were open, so it may be better than at the time I went.
Hill Conditions: Now the 12in of snow may have made my experience not necessarily typical, but I must say I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of mid-Wisconsin snow. There was actual pockets of mid-west powder the day after the snow. I arrived on a Friday while it was still snowing and I was a bit dismayed at the lack of any grooming during the day. There were bumps all over the place. Fortunately by the next day they did have it worked out and it was much smoother.
The lifts are old. Very old and slow. The runs are spread out and there are no hidden paths to extend them out. There is no backside, every run is pretty much on the face, so you can't make a longer run by stringing a few together (anyone who's ridden Boyne, Alpine in Michigan, Nub's Nob, knows what I mean). Basically long lifts, short runs.
The Terrain park was alright, it had some intermediate and expert rails, but no short easy fun boxes. They did put in a couple pretty decent kickers, but nothing over 10-12 ft. Was alright for a weekend, but if they didn't change it around it could get repetetive.
Not a bad place overall, I will go back, but I'm not in a hurry.
