Challenging terrain, lots of snow, good vertical, great prices
No amenities, slow lifts
The other reviews complaining about the service and the slow lifts are right, but here's the thing--if you live in the mid-atlantic, this is by far the best terrain out there. And yes, I have been to Snowshoe and was not impressed. Timberline has two legitimate black diamond runs, that are steep, mogully, and challenging. There are also glades, which needed a bit more snow to be skiable, but for this area that's almost unheard of. Some fun blue runs as well, and every run starts at the top of the mountain, so the 1,000 vertical is legitimate. The prices are dirt cheap as well. Oh, and it's completely empty, so you'll never have to wait in a lift line.
This is not a place where you'd want to go spend a week with the family, but if you're looking for a 1-2 day ski trip, i highly recommend it.
