tree skiing, terrain, not crowded, vertical
staff, old & slow lifts, lousy grooming, terrible food choices
This was my first time at Timberline. It was a few days after a large snowstorm that recently dumped around 2 feet of snow.
Pros: The amount of powder on the runs & in the trees was fantastic. This was, by far, the best east coast ski conditions I've experienced in a few years of skiing. There's a good deal of terrain variety and some very good advanced terrain. The trees were a blast and could be accessed from all over the mountain. The vertical/length of slopes is quite good as well.
Cons: The ticket window lady was unpleasant. She could care less about our patronage or anyone else's for that matter. You're welcome for funding your employment. The food selection is terrible. It's worse than most high school cafeteria's (personally, my high school cafeteria from 15 years ago was much better). The grooming on the "groomed" trails was a joke but the powder was so good it didn't really matter. Yes, the lifts are slow, but it wasn't overcrowded and the vertical is long enough to enjoy the rest provided by the slow lift. The lifts get the job done.
