Alpental is really the only place to go during the week, to get fun, steep runs only an hour away from Seattle. What makes Alpental great is its accessibility to challenging runs. During this past season, i would often go before, after or simply skipping work to go snowboarding at Alpental.
Again, the cons about Alpental is that is pretty much a hit or miss. Earlier this season in January, i felt like it was spring skiing with the top of chair 2 being filled with slushy snow and the lower mountain just being plan icy. While if you look at the latest snow dump in March, i was presently surprised with what seemed like literally feet of powder up top and i was able to create my own lines down bottom in the new snow that fell.
Alpental is just really hard to beat, its close to Seattle and has fairly challenging terrain. Just check the snow report and hopefully you are going midweek to avoid all crowds.
