Lots of trails, great snowmaking, great views!
Lift ticket price, not much natural snow :(
Situated in the Eastern Appalachians, Wintergreen offers wonderful views of the Blue Ridge. Great and fast snow making can make a lot of skiable snow given cold enough temperatures. However, mother nature doesn't always allow for the coldest of temps. Thankfully, however, January 2009 has seen PLENTY of cold days to make a lot of snow this winter.
Wintergreen has lots of great terrain, dedicated mostly to the expert slopes. The intermediate slopes (probably my favorite) are wonderful, but limited. 2 main easy slopes.
Resort is well designed and laid out.
Ultimately, when it's cold enough to make snow, Wintergreen is hard to beat (although its prices can be). However, the lack of natural snow is unfortunate for this gorgeous 4 season resort. Of course, most mid-Atlantic resorts have this problem. Unless, you can travel to Snowshoe where there has already been 150 in. of snow in the winter of '08-'09, Wintergreen is among your best bets! Just check ahead of time to see snow total and the number of slope open. In '08-'09 wintergreen didn't become 100% open till about January 20th.
