Virginians know to avoid Bryce. We go to Snowshoe (WV) if we can get there, 7 Springs (PA) is another option, and if you have to stay near home you hit up Wintergreen or Massanutten. But out-of-towners seem to flock to Bryce, hence the bad reviews on this site. The snow is garbage, but the snow on the east coast is garbage. The snow in VA is the same snow you get (ice or slush) most places on the east coast. I'll agree that the Bryce crew could use a grooming lesson from a better resort, as their groomers are so hard-packed that a weekend there is basically one big bruise. But in the grand scheme of things, its not much different from anything within 200 miles of here. The basic thing to remember is that Bryce is SMALL. The only food is lodge food. The tubing runs are short, there are no black diamonds, and the lift lines get long fast because, well, there are really only two lifts for the two runs. But I've found that if a group of ten people want a cheap place to hang out for the weekend, Bryce is a good option. Ski until your bruises have bruises and you have the two runs memorized down to the leaves on the trees, then head back to your dirt-cheap vacation rental and drink beer. After all, isn't that what vacations are all about?
