I have been skiing Sugarbush for forty-five years and overall. it is my favorite New England ski area. The views from its twin summits are unsurpassed in VT, ranging from the Adirondack high peaks to the west to Mt. Mansfield to the north, to the White Mountains to the east and Killington to the south, with lovely nearby mountain contours and forests. It has true vertical drops of 2600 and 2400 from its highest summits and a wide variety of interesting runs ranging from challenging to cruising. My favorite runs are Moonshine, Organgrinder, Paradise,Castlerock Run, Sleeper, Exterminator, Elbow, the Cliffs and upper and lower FIS.In good snow, the Castlerock area is awesome. Drawbacks to Sugarbush is that Castlerock and a couple of the best trails off Lincoln peak have no snowmaking and some of the more difficult trails are not groomed often enough. In lean snow years, becoming more frequent in global warming, the unavailability of the non-snow making trails, especially on Castlerock, make Sugarbush less interesting to ski. Also, the link lift between Sugarbush north and south often does not run during the weekdays, requiring a car shuttle between the two areas. I love staying at the Sugarbush Inn, a comfy, traditional hotel and eating the great buffet breakfast.
