Third time at Stratton, but I will give part of this review from the eyes of my boyfriend: This was his first time here and also first time skiing in Vermont (we also went to Bromley). He has only been skiing for 2-3 years but is able to handle most any blues and easier/groomed black diamonds. He thought the skiing was really good, as it did not get too slushy on a sunny/upper-40s day in March. He also liked how the resort felt quite spread out and that the lift system was quick and efficient. We both felt that the prices were steep (for lift tickets, food, and nightlife, expect to pay some of the highest in New England). The vertical drop is just into mountain status, at 2003 feet. The trails can ski long or short depending on where you are on the mountain, and the lifts sometimes do not take full advantage of their potential vertical (e.g. Shooting Star). The greens are long and winding, the blues moderately-pitched and lengthy, but some of the blacks feet pretty short, and are not nearly as challenging as those of other resorts nearby (and to the north). The mogul runs on the Kidderbrook side feature nice, soft bumps in the spring, and on a very warm day, the snow in the Snow Bowl area holds up nicely. The only drawback to this is that the Snow Bowl lift does not run midweek, which poses a challenge for those who prefer not to take the Gondola. This is only solved by two lift rides: American Express --> URSA Express, which can get quite annoying. I have avoided Stratton in the past due to its annoying lift setup and high prices, but it was a good intermediate mountain and introduction to VT skiing for my boyfriend and I had more fun here this time than I have had in the past.
