Variety of terrain - especially off trail, Glades, Quality of trails
Bit pricey, limited (affordable) on-mountain lodging
Visted Stowe for the first time in winter with a good friend the first week of January. We lucked out in having amazing early season conditions, with nearly 6 inches of powder our first day. We rode mid-week so crowds were non-existent, with only a 1-2 minute wait for the Gondola. Grooming was inconsistent but seeing as how they had just been dumped on, I wasnt surprised, and frankly was happy they left some natural layering down. The glades here were a blast - the Kitchen Wall and Angel's food especially. Hiking the Mansfield "Backcountry" is a neat experience (off the gondola) even for intermediate rider's. You can find nice, long cruiser's here (not too wide), tight, techincal drops or just laid back blue's. Got rather choppy towards the end of each day. Overall - great experience! Nightlife is non-existent unfortunately, but traveling out of Stowe's bounds affords lots of opportunity.
