I've been coming here since day one early 1960's and still come back excited. Smuggs has great terrain especially on Madonna and Sterling, and with all the newly added glades it's only gotten better. I ski everywhere and in the east this is usually my choice, it really offers more terrain than Stowe because here Sterling Mt.(the backside of Spruce at Stowe) has many more trails, steeps and glades than Spruce and can stand on its own if Madonna is closed due to winds, you can't say that about Spruce. Madonna Mt. is incredible for its offerings and long cruisers, huge blacks, legendary FIS trail and new glades- just lots of terrain. Unlike some other reviewers I like the slow doubles on these mountains, it means far less people being dumped at the top so fewer skiers/boarders on the slopes at any one time, at the end of the day you get the same amount of runs and fortunately it doesn't get too crowded except the usual holidays, it also keeps the lesser skilled away and you'll notice the difference - lots of very good skiers/boarders here. This is a very laid back friendly place and my favorite in VT, the runner up being Sugarbush, then Stowe, but it does have fewer amenities and not enough snowmaking, but compared to when I started here in the 60's at age 8 it's pretty awesome - enjoy!
