I first skied at Smuggs in the late 70's and now come back every winter with my husband and two children. We have skied extensively in northern VT (Mad River Glen, Stowe, Sugarbush, Jay) and without a doubt Smuggs is the best family ski vacation we have found. The skiing is challenging - the way it used to be with limited grooming on the expert trails ( lots of bumps & tree skiing ) and the intermediate trails do have a higher degree of difficulty than intermediate trials found in mid and southern VT. Make no mistake, this is a skiers mountain! The bonus is the fabulous children's programs - great ski camps and top instructors. Mom & Dad can truly have a great ski vacation while the kids do too. The customer service is among the best I have found at any ski resort in the East or West, even over holiday periods. The lifts are old double chairs, but frankly I prefer having the trails left uncrowded even during holiday peak times - as compared to the Okemos of the sport where high speed quads dump masses of people on overcrowded slopes. And if you have any energy left after a day of skiing, there are great restaurants to choose from, a variety of evening activities are provided, ranging from tubing, indoor water parks and kids' play zones, multiple teen centers, planned kids' programs . And you can always find special deals via the Smuggs web site, even over the peak holiday weeks. Year after year Smuggs is rated #1 in SKI Magazine for families and they live up to this reputation and beyond. Truly great skiing and a carefree atmoshphere where they take care of everything - a real vacation!
