its a simple formula to produce good gladed trails. steep+tree spacing+tech features like rock drops or rollers+clear run outs+trim eye level branches. soo many resorts are capable of this but for many reason not using the land they have. some mtn owners have no ambition or vision of anything past a snowy hill with bar at the bottom. that old school mentality might put you out of business.
smugglers is number one family rated mountain because it has the most variety of terrain and activities.these guys need counciling before attempting to ski glades. the first post was accurate to an extent. if your on an easy trail then chances are the woods are going to be similar. its all about conditions and snow base in the trees. some people go in there with no concept of snow levels and get worked over by the rocks and trees quickly. if you think every trail is the same at smugglers i think you were at a different mountain and confused.
For the money you spend on all these trips might as well go to b.c. where the real skiing is at. stowe lol please thats like mt snow easy. smugglers notch is better than jay and stowe. after seeing all of these mountains in summer and winter can confirm smugglers is the rock drop steep technical top of the line for vermont. catskills are about 150 times more rugged than vermont, just dont have the same snowfall amounts or elevation. if you looking for the biggest rock drops they are not anywhere in vermont. most skiers are not interested or capable so this argument is for very limited audience of elite skiers only. fluff bowl skiers need not apply.
