I assumed that this place was pronounced Peak-O, and was a reference to the extremely small ski area. I was wrong, it's pronounced Pike-O. Who knows, maybe it was named by a group of travellers.

If you're holidaying in Killington then this is an ok place to escape to at the weekend when the New Yorkers and Bostonians descend on the bigger neighbour. It's only 5 minutes down the road and there are generally no queues (or lines). Having said that it is all a bit one dimensional (like so many US ski areas). You go up to the top and come all the way down to the bottom, and then you do it again and again, until you get bored, usually about 2 hours after you got there.

There is some half decent off-piste, but you need to be with someone who knows where to go. When I was there they were also doing free Telemark lessons on a Tuesday, presumably born out of the boredom of skiing normally down the slope.

In conclusion, it's ok for a short time but I wouldn't make a special effort to ski there. And you can get your driveway tarmacced whilst your skiing.
