Despite the sheer quantity of people visiting Killington this is still a quality mountain. I understand and sympathize with complaints of lift lines and a lack of elbow room on popular trails but this is a big mountain that provides far more terrain than most Vermont ski resorts. The number of lifts on the mountain can really overwhelm some folks but if you map out your runs you can find some creative ways to get where you want to go. Logistically this mountain could use some work. Some of the lifts starting and ending points are in curious locations that really make you wonder why the mountain would almost encourage bottlenecking at the bottom of certain lifts. But beyond these problems there is some excellent terrain to be found here. The Bear Mountain area is a personal favorite and when the crowds are really heavy I try to work my way over to this area in an attempt to get beyond runs that return me to one of the base areas. While Killington is certainly no Okemo in terms of being a "Family Friendly" atmosphere, it gets a little worse reputation than I think it deserves. Especially during non-holiday weekdays Killington can be a real joy. No matter what your experience level you are sure to find what you are looking for here. Make no mistake Killington's crowds can cause problems but this is still an excellent mountain and one of the best in the east.
