Full review

Went to Mt Ascuzney as we now call it with my wife and three young kids. Should've read these reviews first. First Time I should have been suspicious when I saw the very large handwritten sign on the ticket counter "NO REFUNDS FOR ANY REASON!" The mountain was bare or icy for almost all trails. There was far more green and rock showing than white. Most of the trails were closed. What was left was icy corduroy. We skied the two lower green trails that were open. The trail map showed a green trail from the top of the mountain to the bottom. We decided to ski that as my kids are pretty good skiers for semi-beginners.. They are 10 ,8 and 6. The youngest is still a high novice. However when we got to the lift the sign on the lift said " Be aware that this lift does not service novice trails. This lift services high intermediate and expert trails only!" Since the trail, map showed this lift going up to a green trail. I was confused so I asked the lift attendant what the story was, did this lift take us to green trail and if it did how difficult was it? He was a nice young man who unfortunately did not speak English too well. I showed him my youngest son, explained his skill level, and asked him if it was safe to take him up. He told us yes it was an easy trail that if he could ski it anyone could. A blatant lie we were to find out. We went up the lift got to the top and had trouble finding the trail markers. The lift attendant we asked for help couldn't hear us until he took the ipod earphones out of his ears after I tapped him on the shoulder. The "Green" trail turned out to be an icy blue/black with sharp steep turns and sheer headwalls. My son was terrified several times as we had to slide down to him halfway down some steeps where he lay crying and screaming for help trying not to slide down the mountain. For half the trip down my wife had to sit on her butt holding my son in her lap as they slid down the mountain in a barely controlled slide while I skied down carrying both sets of their skis and three sets of poles while making sure my other 2 kids did not kill themselves. Needless to say we were not happy but received no satisfaction form management. I cannot believe they would falsely;y represent this trail as a green when it is obviously at least a high blue or in most places a black that I would negotiate with care and I'm an advanced skier. I can only believe that they do this deliberately to try and attract families to ski. As far as the rest of it the facilities are all old and not well maintained. The ski school looked to be a joke with few magic carpets thrown on a slope next to a lift that had the size and slope of my backyard. The employees were civil but not helpful. Suffice to say that we will never return to Ascuzney as we now call it. Luckily we were skiing at Okemo for most of the week and only went here for a "change of pace". Well we certainly got it! we hustled right back to Okemo for some real skiing. I don't know if anyone will ever invest some real money and energy into this place but if it continues the way its going it will be closed very soon.
