Pros: Better value than Verbier and ski-linked to the entire 4-valley area

Cons: Only run back from Plan de Fou is a black - or take the telecabine

Haute Nendaz is situated at 1500m on a sunny plateau high above the Rhone Valley. Handy for Geneva at 90 mins by road or rail. Compact small town with 35+ restaurants and bars and a couple of nightclubs but nothing very racy - a St Anton party town it isn't. Nor is it pretentious a la Megeve or Gstaad. In fact it's very down to earth and not posh in the least. The locals are nice people who welcome tourists and the resort is very family-friendly. (There's none of the 'them and us' thing that goes on between the Brits and the French in the Trois Vallees). The Cabane for example is a great restaurant and the take-away pizzas from the Italian restaurant are magnificent.

Good base from which to access the Verbier high red runs (and the blacks if you're up for it) - if the Prarion connection is shut the free ski bus to Siviez takes about 10 minutes. The telecabine is large for the village and queues are rare. The town is well-cared for and the snowploughs clear all roads (main and side) by 7am each day in the winter. Couple of hotels and loads of self-catering chalets and apartments - the Migros supermarket has great fresh produce and Pam sells excellently priced spirits and wines - the local ones are a real treat.
